Late-night emergency call. The door had come off its track and was resting on the customer's car, leaving the garage wide open. We reseated the door, straightened the track and replaced the damaged rollers on the spot.
The spring had snapped clean in two, so the door wouldn't lift at all and the customer's car was stuck inside. We replaced both springs as a pair, rebalanced the door and retuned the opener travel.
The original doors were past repair — warped panels and failing hardware. We removed both, installed new insulated steel doors with matching glass, and hauled the old ones away the same day.

Older intown homes. Grant Park, Kirkwood, West End and Candler Park are full of 1920s–40s houses with detached garages. These often run older single-spring setups on lightweight wooden or early steel doors. When that one spring goes, the door is dead weight — and there's no second spring sharing the load. We usually recommend converting to a paired torsion system so a single failure doesn't strand you again.
Newer builds north of I-85. Buckhead and Brookhaven homes tend to have wide double doors with belt-drive openers. The doors are heavier and better insulated, which is good, but it means worn rollers and unbalanced springs put real strain on the opener motor. Most of the opener failures we see up there started as a balance problem nobody noticed.
Atlanta humidity. Summer damp and temperature swings are hard on steel cables and tracks. Fraying and surface rust show up faster here than in drier climates, which is why we check both cables on every visit even when only one has failed.
